TOOTING BEC CIRCLES AND ANGLES: A TIERED GARDEN TRANSFORMATION

DESIGN & BUILD BY STUART SAVAGE LANDSCAPING

Completed in November 2024, this project in Tooting Bec Circles, London, showcases Stuart Savage Landscaping's ability to transform complex, tiered outdoor spaces into a cohesive, visually striking "nocturnal sanctuary". The redesign focuses on geometric harmony, balancing hard landscaping with a lush horticultural plan.

STRATEGIC DESIGN FOR TIERED LANDSCAPES

The primary objective for this Tooting garden was to transform a disjointed, multi-level plot into a functional retreat with improved accessibility. We conducted a comprehensive assessment to identify natural focal points and structural opportunities.

ROLE

GARDEN DESIGNER AND LANDSCAPING

GEOMETRIC HARDSCAPING AND PREMIUM MATERIALS
Central Focal Point: The heart of the garden features a lush circular lawn, which serves as a visual anchor for the entire space.

Tumbled Mint Sandstone: We utilised Tumbled Multi-mint Indian Sandstone from London Stone for the main patio areas and steps, providing a light, textured finish that brightens the garden.

Seamless Access: New masonry steps were meticulously installed to facilitate effortless movement across the garden's tiered levels.

Structural Timber and Vertical Interest
Oak Railway Sleepers: We constructed bespoke raised bed planters using high-quality oak sleepers from Suregreen, adding warmth and structural height to the borders.

Vertical Planting: A striking vertical oak planter serves as a modern focal point, maximising planting surface in a compact footprint.

COMPREHENSIVE HORTICULTURAL PLAN
The softscaping for the Tooting Bec project was designed for long-term sustainability and year-round visual interest, featuring a diverse palette of evergreen and flowering species.

KEY PLANTING:
Structure: Magnolia grandiflora 'Gallissonniere' (Bull bay) and Elaeagnus x submacrophylla 'Viveleg'.

Texture: A variety of ferns, including Dryopteris erythrosora (Copper shield fern) and Polystichum polyblepharum (Japanese lace fern).

Seasonal Interest: Helleborus niger (Christmas rose) for winter, and Salvia 'Amethyst Lips' for vibrant summer colour.

Suppliers: All plants were sourced from Evergreen Exterior Services to ensure premium quality.
